Oh My Goodness!

May 28, 2009

Today we received two  packages of cards. One was from Deborah K. of Lexington, SC. Deborah is a longtime Still Someone volunteer and all of her work signing cards is so appreciated. Deborah writes wonderful notes in each of her cards and adds little decorative touches. She is a treasure.

We also got a surprise box chock full of handmade cards! The return address on this box was simply “A Friend” in PA. This certainly was the work of a friend.

I know the seniors who receive Deborah’s and the mystery volunteer’s cards will be touched by their thoughtfulness. Many, many thanks to both of them.

We’re going to try something new to thank Still Someone supporters and offer gifts for set donation levels. The first gift has been posted — a one-of-a-kind knit shawl available to the first donation of $25. As more sponsorship gifts become available, they will be posted on the website, just follow the “GIFTS” tab in the navigation bar. If you have an idea for the perfect sponsorship gift or would like to donate something to be used as a gift, please email contact@stillsomeone.org.

No one at Still Someone is paid for their involvement. All money raised will directly support sending cards, blankets, afghans, and shawls to residents of nursing homes.

Thank you!

A donation of enough yarn to make three blankets was made in honor of John and Tami Wyatt.  The yarn in absolutely beautiful  and springy (Red Heart “frosty green fleck” and “spa blue fleck”). Pictures of the finished blankets will be posted here and sent to the Wyatts.

Thank you!

Thank you to Melissa R. of Eglin AFB, Florida, and Deb Kelderman of Summerville, South Carolina for being “repeat” volunteers, and a welcoming thank you to new volunteer Chris O. of Shelburne Falls, MA. Thanks to these three volunteers, the Still Someone mailbox was overflowing with beautiful cards this afternoon. The local postmaster noticed and asked David, who was picking up the mail, all about the organization. I just wish I had been there — I love bragging about all of the wonderful volunteers who make it easy to serve the seniors in so many nursing homes.

I also wanted to thank Aneetha R.’s mom, Janaki, for her work.  She must have done something very right to have raised such a caring daughter.

I came across this lap blanket (scroll down to the section “Special Lap Blanket for Adults”) designed to fit around wheelchairs. What a great design! I hope some of our crafty volunteers will be able to translate it into a crocheted, knitted, tied, or sewn pattern. If you do, please share!

Thank you Aneetha R. of Ada, Michigan; Janaki R. of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and Melissa C. of Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts for the lovely cards!

Also, a big thanks to fourth graders Collin F., Alex E., Scott L., Blaine K., and Jack B. who made special Saint Patrick’s Day cards at their last Cub Scout meeting.

A very special thanks to Lorena (Still Someone’s distribution coordinator and planning guru) for offering to hand deliver this month’s cards.

Still Someone is a 100% volunteer organization, and people like Aneetha, Janaki, Melissa, Collin, Alex, Blaine, Jack, and Lorena are what keeps it going.

Thank you all so much!
